Dreamhost: Works… Like a dream

I’ve been a long time client with MediaTemple, and have been, at best, semi-happy with their service. When I first signed up, they were the place to go for all things cutting-edge, and more specifically, the biggest supporters of Flash services (i.e. Flash Media Server, etc.). It didn’t hurt that some of my idols in the community (at that time 2advanced studios) were also big proponents of the company. Couple this with the fact that I got myself a pretty damn good hosting rate, and I was more than happy to deal with the slowness, rather half-assed customer service, and chronic growing pains. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that MediaTemple is a bad provider, in fact I still hear from quite a few people that they are quite happy with their service; however, most of these people are using their higher end hosted solutions, while I am using a much lower rate shared server.

Enter DREAMHOST: I did a little digging recently and tried my luck with a few different hosting providers (GoDaddy to name one) before finally finding my way to Dreamhost. My experience thus far has been very positive. Their rates are very reasonable, I get UNLIMITED EVERYTHING (hosted domains, databases, bandwidth, space, etc. etc. etc.), they support all the programming goodies I want (latest PHP and MySql, Ruby, SVN, etc.), and have a decent number of “one-click” installers which I have found very nice for setting up quick installations of things such as WordPress. I have encountered one or two minor hickups along the way, and their customer service was extremely quick to respond (even at 1AM), and really went above and beyond to help me fix my problem (not to mention they were actually friendly!).

So, while I know there about 10 million other hosting choices out there, for the time being, Dreamhost gets my business!

    This review has been 2 years ago. Any update Kyle? Haven’t used Dreamhost because I get a lot of negative review with them. I heard that they are constantly having outages lately. I’m still looking for a better web host for my site. Don’t mind paying a little bit higher as long as its high quality service.

      Been with them since posting this article and have yet to have any significant issues. I have nothing but positive things to say about their service!
