Devs meet LoaderMax!

If you’re anything like me, then you will most likely agree that loading assets (images, videos, xml files) in your Flash/Flex projects is a huge pain in the ass! Well today’s your lucky day my friend! The team over at greensock (the guys that made Actionscript based tweening a breeze with TweenLite) have come out with a new addition to their library: LoaderMax!

At its’ core, LoaderMax is a set of classes that take all the tedious, repetitive tasks involved in loading assets, and wraps them in a clean, easy-to-use package. On top of the base functionality, you get a bunch of goodies, such as:

Strongly typed classes for handling loader configuration properties (ImageLoaderVars, DataLoaderVars, etc.) The addition of these classes gives you the ability to quickly and easily create the configuration for your loaded assets without having to remember all of the property names that you need to set. In addition, these classes offer “method chaining,” which gives you additional flexibility when it comes to creating your code.

Parsing an array of assets, auto-creating loaders for each asset automatically, and adding a prependURLS(“path”) method which adds a baste path to each asset being loaded.

There are a ton more really great features in this library (too many to list here), but luckily (as if simply providing this library for FREE wasn’t enough), the guys at Greensock have created an extensive collection of how-to’s, tips, and even a complete video series outlining the basic features to get your started:
